Biochemicals and Biofuels from Hydrodeoxygenation of Lignin-derived Phenolics
2024-2025 USDA-NIFA Limited Competitive Research Support Award
Principal Investigators and Affiliations:
PI: Drs. Zishu Cao and Fernando Resende, The University of Texas-Tyler
Graduate Student: Charles Defor
Funded: $89,568
Start Date: 10/1/2024
End Date: 6/30/2025
Objectives
- Develop nickel embedded HZSM-5 zeolite nanosheets bifunctional catalyst.
- Evaluate the catalytic properties with simulated phenolics and characterization of catalyst physicochemical properties.
Expected Project Outcomes
The graduate student will receive comprehensive training in material development and catalysis upon completion of this project. Successfully completing this project will provide fundamental insights into bifunctional catalysts for HDO of phenolics and deliver essential technology for converting lignin into biochemicals and biofuels in the United States.
